Extremism of “Any Kind” is the New Normal. Time to take the Halo off!
You’ve seen them. They are your neighbors, friends and relatives. They’re either too far to the left or too far to the right. Too much of a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Pagan, etc. Too much of a saver, too much of a spender. Anti-this and that to the extreme or pro-this or that to the extreme. Extremism is bad in just about any form, whether it be political ideology, religious beliefs or even something as mundane as…….. skincare?
Americans are battling with other Americans who are essentially on the same side as them. Recently, on a popular feminist Facebook group, I witnessed several females argue for days about who was more of a feminist than the other! I finally got so tired of seeing their arguments coming up on my feed that I called them out on it. I said, “How the hell can you be fighting? You are on the same side!”. It literally is the same group of women who go to extreme lengths to post a controversial statement, just to get a rise out of people to argue with, including their own allies. Needless to say, I was kicked out of the group after I then said “Some of you women are just extremist bitches who wake up every morning looking for an argument”, LOL.
This week alone, I’ve seen people battle about who is more of a Patriot than the other. And I’ve had to fend off confrontations with my own friends and family who don’t want to allow me to have my own opinion and ideals about patriotism. These people are extremist in their views and truly believe that their way is the only way and everything else is just wrong. These people are the ones who go on other people’s personal Facebook walls and try to change their minds and convince them otherwise. These extremist are on multiple groups, pages, etc., fighting with the whole world. They absolutely cannot see the other side of the coin. And frankly, they don’t care too. I wish they could see that differences are never just one-sided, though we wish they were. If they were only made up of one side, it would be so much easier to win, right? But such is life, and facing perspectives different from your own is a part of that. Learning to accept others for their individuality and differences is so much healthier for all of us.
As more of a spiritual person, I try my best to stay centered. Yes, sometimes they get a rise out of me and my “cracked halo” comes off, I argue and have to take a breather. But for the most part, I retract back to my meditative, manifesting state. Sooooo…. Here is a list of ideas on how to deal with extremist.
- Ignore them
- Meditate, do yoga and ignore them.
- Have a cup of herbal tea and ignore them.
- Have a glass of wine and ignore them.
- Block them on all of your social media sites and ignore them.
- Pray for them and ignore them.
- Ignore them.
Ahhhhh….. that felt good. Ok, halo gets put back on. Blessings, Love and Light my friends.
